We host a year-round programme of meetings and events – many of which are open to everyone.
This event is the second Collections Encounter that we are holding in partnership with The John Rylands Library. It is being held as one of many events to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Elizabeth Gaskell’s death.
We are pleased to be given another opportunity to view some items from the Library’s collection of Gaskell manuscripts, including the Wives and Daughters MS; this will be curated by Fran Baker, Archivist at the Library, and member of The Gaskell Society. Fran will be joined by Laura Caradonna, one of the Library’s conservators, who is working on conserving/repackaging the Gaskell Collection. Laura will tell us such details as the type of paper and ink used and how she is preserving the collection
These are two identical events, as capacity is limited, so please book only for one.

The limit is 20 people so early booking is advised
