Christmas Celebration Meeting at the Portico Library

£10 – £11Our special Christmas Meeting will once again take place at the beautiful Portico Library. We are pleased to tell you that this year our buffet will be provided by our Knutsford caterers. It will be a seasonal finger buffet and there will be a pay-bar, with hot drinks also available
. This will be followed by
Daughters of Manchester a talk by Jean Briggs.
Jean will give an entertaining & informative talk on the Jewsbury sisters, Geraldine and Maria-Jane, who lived in Manchester at the same time as the Gaskells and moved in the same circles. Geraldine Jewsbury wrote novels herself and was a prolific reviewer, acquainted with the leading Victorian authors of the day. She and Elizabeth Gaskell knew each other though theirs was an uneasy relationship….
Jean Briggs is a well-known novelist – as J.C.Briggs, she writes murder mysteries published by The History Press, featuring Charles Dickens as an amateur detective.
