Elizabeth Gaskell’s Cultural Connections

Tuesday 14 July, 2020, 11:00 am - 1:15 pm

FREE

You’re invited to the Gaskell Society’s first ever online talk, to be delivered by Dr Diane Duffy.

Manchester was Britain’s first industrial city and in 2017 it was successful in its bid to join UNESCO’s worldwide Creative Cities network as a City of Literature. The city has, for nearly 200 years, been a place where art and science, culture and industry have become intrinsically linked: at its centre, we find Elizabeth Gaskell.
Join us for a presentation, followed by a discussion, on Elizabeth Gaskell and her connections with the cultural life of Manchester. For the first time, we’ll be using Zoom, so the event has been split into two 40-minute sessions, which a nice tea break in-between.

If you’re a Gaskell Society member, you’ll have already received an invitation by email, but non-members are most welcome. If you’d like to come and join us, simply contact us  and we’ll send you the invitation. We’re hoping that the event will be available via our website afterwards, for those unable to attend. The event is free and there’s no need to book.
