London and S.E. Gaskell Society Meeting
Saturday 11 November, 2017, 12:45 pm - 4:30 pm
£5Elizabeth Gaskell Illustrated’ Emma Marigliano
Emma Marigliano is the Chief Librarian at the Portico Library in Manchester, a place frequented by both William who was president for many years and Elizabeth although her access was rather confined to the reading of current periodicals. Emma will speak about the ways in which Gaskell’s novels have been illustrated over the years. You may remember that we had a speaker about this topic over 10 years ago so it seems timely to renew acquaintance with the subject from a new perspective
The meetings are held at Francis Holland School for Girls, London SW1 8JF which is a three-minute walk fro Sloane Street tube station, on the District and Circle line.
They begin at 2pm, usually last about an hour. Each talk is followed by questions, and then tea is served.
Before the meetings a sandwich lunch is available and everyone is welcome any time after 12.45pm.
At each meeting there is a bring and buy book stall in aid of The Gaskell House in Manchester so please bring books for sale, the bookstall always needs refreshment!!
The afternoon costs £5.00, which includes lunch and tea
