Elizabeth Gaskell and the Gregs of Styal and Bollington by Anthony Burton

Anthony Burton has a degree in English Literature and was a curator at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

Specialising in various aspects of 19th-century culture, he was also in charge of two Victorian literary libraries and served as a Trustee of the Charles Dickens Museum, London. On retiring to the North-West, where he had grown up, he found Elizabeth Gaskell’s House on the point of opening, and became a Trustee. He has served two terms on the committee of the Gaskell Society, and (in accordance with the rules) steps down at this year’s AGM.

The AGM is free to all members to attend. This year there will be no charge for The Daphne Carrick Memorial Lecture, so please come along to Cross St Chapel or attend on Zoom.

Members on our emailing list will receive an invitation link by email. Those wishing to join the meeting by phone will find the numbers in our Spring Newsletter, due in March.  If you have any queries, please contact us.
