The monthly second-hand book sale at Elizabeth Gaskell’s House is a must-visit for book lovers.
Two rooms packed full of books of all genres, including contemporary fiction, art, gardening, photography, classics, OS maps, biographies, history, cookery, social history and children’s! With new stock every month there are treasures to be found. Prices start at just £1 for a paperback.
Sales take place on the second Sunday of each month. Entry to the sale is included in your admission ticket to the House – do remember that once you’ve bought a ticket, it’s valid for twelve months from the point of issue. That’s buy one book sale, get eleven free by our reckoning!
Please support the book sales – all money raised from the sales of books goes towards running costs and ensuring the House stays open to the public.
Do you have books you can donate to a good cause?
Elizabeth Gaskell’s House accepts donations of fiction including poetry and plays. They’re currently unable to accept large quantities of non-fiction books, due to a lack of storage space, however. Please call in advance on 0161 273 2215 if you have a large donation of books.
Please note books can only be dropped off on public open days (Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays).
